I have a 20 gallon high tank waiting to be filled. Are there any cichlids that would fit and flourish in this size tank?

Yes. You have several options, including:
Small Tanganyikans, such as shell-dwellers or Julidochromis.
Small West Africans, such as the diverse "Krib" group.
Apistos., Rams, and other small South Americans.
Others, probably, that I haven't thouht of.
Good luck finding something!
